   Elegant, late summer flowering, producing gorgeous, well shaped blooms in rose to pink shades for many weeks and providing the perfect end to the summer. Happy in sun or light shade. Flowers late summer/autumn, 2 - 4 feet in height. Zone 5 -9.

 

Astilbe 'Bridal Veil'

Lacy white panicles that droop at the ends. Deep green foliage. Full sun to shade, height to 28 inches. Makes a good cut flower. Good as a border, in mass grouping or in mixed border.
 

Astilbe 'Peach Blossom'

   The color of this photo is not good. The flowers are a peach color with a hint of pink. Good for mixed beds. The flowers form full plumes with glossy foliage. Prefers full sun to full shade. Height to 30 inches. Can be used as a cut flower. Deer resistant. Zone 4 - 9.

   Compact plant 18 to 24 inches. Plant has many single flowered stems and blooms from  spring to early summer in full sun. Mixed colors, pinks, whites and purple. Hardy to zone 3.

 

Aster, Purple Dome

 This aster grows only 18 inches tall, purple flowers cover the entire plant starting in mid September and lasts a month. Likes full sun and average soil. Does not like dry soil. A must have for fall color in the garden. Zone 3 - 8.
 

Baptisia, False Indigo - Baptisia

   Shrub like perennial, grows to 3 feet with blue sweet pea like flowers, without the scent.  Produces seed pods that may be dried and used for arrangements. Blooms in spring, in average soil, full sun preferred.

 

 Bee Balm, Spotted - Monarda punctata

   Different than normal bee balm. Top leaves turn pink and white, and small brown spotted yellow flowers appear. Bee's and butterflies love this plant. Prefers full sun. Use as a specimen plant or with others. Height 24 inches.

Bergenia cordifolia

   Full sun to part shade. Bergenia tolerates any type of soil but prefers moist conditions. Evergreen plant that grows to 12 inches. Best used as a border or in front of the bed. Works great as a groundcover.
 

Bergenia, Redstart - Bergenia

   Usually growing to a foot tall, this thick leaved plant has red flowers that are produced on a stalk in spring. They love full sun to part shade in average to fertile soil. Makes a great ground cover. Divide every three or four years.

   Star shaped yellow flowers on a plant with sword shaped leaves. Tan seed heads burst open in the fall showing black seed. These seed heads can be cut and used in dried flower arrangements. Prefers full sun, average soil, gets 18 to 24 inches high.

Deadheading will prolong flowering from June till first frost. Blanket flower likes hot, sunny areas.
 Needs good drainage and is drought tolerant. Soggy soil will cause root rot in winter. Two tone flowers or ones of a single color. Self seeds. Native plant.

   A small grass to 12 inches when in bloom. Grown for its fine bluish blades. It is clump forming, makes a nice accent next to other flowering plants. Easy to grow, full sun to part shade, average soil.

  Darkest of the buddleias. This plant quickly grows to 6 to 8 feet. Prefers full sun in fertile soil. Loved by butterflies and hummingbirds. Best in the back of the border. May be trimmed close to the ground in spring, will grow back quickly. This plant has dark purple flowers. Zone 5 - 10

Butterfly Bush, Yellow Honeycomb - Buddleia

  Honeycomb is considered to be the finest yellow Buddleia. This is a fragrant buddleia. It's yellow blooms deepen toward the center to create an illusion of greater depth, hence the name honeycomb. Its strong fragrance attracts more butterflies than other species. Flowers summer thru fall. Hardy zones 5 -10. 

 

Butterfly Weed- Asclepias

An extremely hardy, long-lived perennial native to North America. The magnificent bright orange flowers are concentrated in compact clusters at the top of branching stems. The flowers produce a large quantity of nectar which attracts butterflies throughout the growing season. Butterfly Weed may take up to two years to become established from seed. Likes full sun in average soil. height 12 to 18 inches. Slow to reappear in spring, so mark the plant so you do not dig it up.

 

Carolina Lupine -  Thermopsis caroliniana

   Native plant from North Carolina. Growing to 5 feet and bear spikes of yellow, pealike flowers in late June and July, followed by small pods resembling small string beans that are covered with short hairs. Plants grow in almost any good, well-drained soil in full sun. Without full sun, the stems will lean to the light and then flop over. In rich soil, plants will be very tall and need staking. New plants take a few years to form sizable clumps. If given adequate moisture just before flowering begins, plants are very drought-resistant.

 

Caryopteris 'Longwood Blue'

   This shrub grows 2 feet tall, silvery leaves and blue flowers produced in summer and lasts into fall. This one is named after Longwood Gardens. Butterflies love this flower and it also makes a great cut flower. Full sun to part shade, average to fertile garden soil. Zone 5 - 9.

  NEPETA Walker's Low 30" tall spreading to 3' wide. Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year 2007. Lovely blue violet flowers accent aromatic grey green foliage. Long season of bloom and carefree habit won it a place in the Perennial Plant "Hall of Fame". Covered with blossoms in summer. Spent flowers should be cut back to promote new bloom. Likes sun and dry conditions. One of the best plants to edge or underplant a rose bed. Cut back to the ground in early spring. Cats treat it like catnip. Deer resistant.
 

Chives - Allium schoenoprasum L.

   Member of the onion family.The leaves grow from 8 to 12 inches. Full sun to part shade, average to fertile soil. Produces a purple ball shaped flower in late spring early summer. Used as an herb. Will self seed if not dead headed.
 

Chives, Garlic - Allium tuberosum

  The leaves are shaped like grass or baby leaks. They grow to 24 inches. Produce a white ball shaped flower in late summer. The leaves are used for cooking, and have a garlic like flavor. Full sun is preferred, in any garden soil. Will self seed. Zone 3 - 9.

   This plant grows up to 30 inches tall, with double pink flowers from late spring till early summer. Likes full sun to part shade, fertile to average garden soil. Can tolerate dry areas. Zone 1 - 10.

   Tall daisy like purple flower, from summer to fall. Dead heading helps to prolong bloom season. Leave a few cones at the end of fall to reseed and for the birds. Height 18 - 30 inches. Plants will grow taller with more fertile soil and may need staking. Prefer full sun but fine in part shade, average soil. This is the plant that is used in a lot of herbal cold remedies.

 

Coneflower 'White Swan' - Echinacea

   White daisy like flower, blooms in summer to late fall. Dead head for longer bloom time. Birds love the seed, so leave a few seed heads in the garden in fall to feed the birds, dropped seed will usually grow, multiplies easily. Full sun, part shade, average garden soil. May become tall and need staking in fertile soils. Size is 18 - 30 inches usually.

Leaves emerge bright copper red then fade to umber as new leaves appear to replace them. In early summer, spikes of red flowers add to the show. Height 10". Zones 4 - 9.
 

Coreopsis rosea 'American'

   This sun loving perennial will flower all summer long if kept deadheaded. Height is 18". Pink daisy like flowers on fern like foliage. Easy to grow in the front of a border or in a mixed border. Zone 4 - 9.
 

 Coreopsis verticillata "Moonbeam"

   Hardy perennial, full sun, part shade. Deadhead for longer flowering. Flowers in summer. Use in mix borders.

Crocosmia 'Lucifer'

Cousins to the gladiola, these hardy plants produce clumps of green sword-shaped leaves, arching spikes of red funnel-shaped blossoms appearing in mid to late summer. Outstanding as a cut flower. Clumps should be divided every three years, in spring. Can be dug up each year but will survive if heavily mulched. Full sun, avearge soil. Height 36" when in flower.
 

 Daisies, Shasta

Daisies love full sun, but will tolerate light shade. Love fertile soil. Dead head after flowering to get more blooms. Easy flower that lasts a long time.

Bicolor spider-type daylily, with magenta/purple petals and creamy yellow sepals. Lots of blooms and makes a great display. Blooms mid season, full sun, 36 inches tall.

Reddish black blooms, vigourous grower. Prefers full sun. Grows 30 inches tall, blooms early to mid summer. Rebloomer.

Pale yellow flowers that appear white from a distance. Repeat bloomer producing multiple blooms. Fragrant, grows 30 inches tall, full sun. Flowers early.

 Deep burgundy red flowers, start mid to late season and continue till frost. Repeat bloomer, full sun, grows to only 18 inches.

Delphinium 'Dwarf Butterfly Blue'

   Shorter version to its cousin, this 14 inch perennial is covered with blue flowers in summr with deeply lobed cut foliage. Liked by butterflies. Full sun, fertile soil. May reseed. Zone 3 - 7.

 

Delphinium, Magic Fountain Cherry Blossom

   This mini pink Delphinium never needs support! The bloomstalks are about a foot long atop 24- to 28-inch plants, with flowers crowded all long the spike for a very bushy, colorful effect. Good choice for the front of the border or for smaller gardens. Magic Fountain blooms in early to midsummer. Blooms early to mid summer. Cut back after flwering to get this plant to rebloom. Zones 3 - 7.

 

Dianthus, Zing Rose

  Zing has evergreen foliage, red blooms that begin in late spring and don't quit till frost, and a super-floriferous nature! It keeps blooming through the worst summer heat, humidity, and drought!

These vigorous plants grow just 6 inches tall but spread freely, the grass-like foliage is almost hidden by the blooms. The flowers keep their brilliant rosy-red color all season, and return for many years to come. Perfect for the border, edging, and containers of all types. Maiden Pinks grow readily in full sun and well-drained, sandy soil. Zone 3 - 9.
